Insurance policies that cover theft of or damage to a vehicle use Actual Cash Value, the present market value, as the basis for valuing the vehicle in the event of a loss. If you have an accident or your vehicle is stolen, the company will pay you based on your vehicle's Actual Cash Value. We suggest you use one of two auto industry guides Kelly Blue Book or NADA to help you determine the present value of your vehicle.

Towed Unit Information

How many items will be towed behind the above vehicle? *

If you are towing a trailer or another vehicle you must declare it on your online application. If you do not declare all towed units, and have an accident, your claim can be denied.

Coverage for Theft and other damage to a towed vehicle on this policy applies ONLY if you include a dollar value for the towed vehicle and only when the towed vehicle is loaded on a trailer and hitched to the power unit.

If the towed unit you declare is a boat, motorcycle, or ATV, there is no coverage under this policy once it is unloaded or the trailer is unhitched from the power unit.

If the vehicle you are towing is self propelled (such as an RV towing an SUV), a separate policy is needed to cover the towed unit while it is being driven.

In this scenario, issue the first policy covering the RV for Physical Damage and Liability (listing the towed unit for $ 0 value), and issue a second policy covering the SUV for Physical Damage and Liability while it is self propelled or towed.

DUE TO A RADICAL CHANGE TO MEXICO LIABILITY LAW, WE NOW RECOMMEND THAT ALL OUR CUSTOMERS PURCHASE A MINIMUM OF $300,000 in LIABILITY LIMITS, AND SERIOUSLY CONSIDER THE $500,000 LIMIT!

In the past, the liability damages imposed on an at-fault driver who caused a negligent fatality in Mexico were capped at 730 days multiplied by the local Mexico Minimum Wage (approximately $ 50,000 total damages in most Mexican States). Effective immediately, that limit has been increased by the Mexican Government to 5,000 days multiplied by the local Mexico minimum wage (up to approximately $ 300,000 US Dollars total damages, depending on the Mexican State). Below is a State-by-State summary of the new limits.

What limits do you suggest we choose when purchasing future new or renewal policies for Mexico?
We suggest that you now use the same level of care regarding Mexico Liability limits that you would use when purchasing a US or Canadian auto liability policy. The radical change to Mexico Liability law means that claims for Death Liability in Mexico will now be similar to the damages that are often imposed by courts in the US and Canada in similar cases.

IMPORTANT CHANGE - READ THIS!

This coverage pays for bodily injury or property damage to third parties in the event you are found negligent in a covered accident. Liability coverage does not cover damages to occupants of your vehicle or damage to YOUR vehicle.

We offer 2 options for deductibles which apply to coverage for Theft of or damage to your vehicle.

FIXED DEDUCTIBLES: This option is similar to deductibles in the U.S. and Canada. Deductibles are set at $500 for collision and $1000 for theft, regardless of your vehicle value or the amount of damage.

The "FIXED" deductible option is required by most leasing companies and lienholders. By choosing this option your premium will be a little higher but your deductible will remain fixed. This means you will save significant money in the event of a loss (especially on vehicles valued over $25,000) when compared to the Percentage Deductible option

PERCENTAGE DEDUCTIBLES are the standard for Mexican Tourist Auto policies and remain the only option offered by most other agents. While this option reduces the premium by a few dollars, in the event of a claim it will cost you much more. If you choose to insure your vehicle using this option, the deductibles are 2% of the vehicle value for collision and 5% of the vehicle value for theft. But a claim is also subject to a minimum dollar amount. The MINIMUM deductible amount varies with each Mexican Insurer and the type of vehicle (car, SUV, pickup, RV, etc.).
